    The ECG test is a test that measures the electrical activity of the heart using 3, 5, or 12 leads connected to ECG machines. Still, the shorter the amount of time the leads are connected, the easier the removal of the leads will be.

    Using ECG machines for testing patients is a good idea when they have certain symptoms including, but not limited to chest pain, difficulty breathing, fainting, or abnormal heartbeat. For an ECG test, a patient is often hooked up for a short amount of time (often as little as a minute). However, patients who need long-term monitoring may wear ECG leads for longer periods of time as part of a hospital stay.
